YMusic Songs — Catalog, Search, Playlists, and Library Guide

YMusic accesses YouTube’s full public catalog — every music video, lyric video, and audio upload that is publicly available. If it is on YouTube, it is searchable in YMusic.

What Songs Are Available in YMusic?

YMusic accesses YouTube’s full public catalog including music videos, lyric videos, audio-only uploads, live recordings, covers, remixes, and user-uploaded tracks from major labels and independent artists. Regional restrictions apply: a video blocked on YouTube is also unavailable in YMusic.

What is NOT in YMusic’s catalog:

  • Spotify content (different platform entirely)
  • Apple Music content (different platform entirely)
  • Private YouTube videos (not accessible by API)
  • YouTube Premium-exclusive content (paywalled on YouTube)

For the full feature set: ymusic features — background play, equalizer, data saver, and download formats.

Do You Need a Google Account to Use YMusic?

No. Search, streaming, background play, and offline downloads all work without signing in. A Google account is required only to import existing YouTube playlists or access liked videos.

Without Google account — full access to:

  • Search and stream any public YouTube audio
  • Background play with screen off
  • Offline downloads (MP3/M4A/Opus)
  • Local playlists (created inside YMusic, stored on device)
  • Recently played history
  • Equalizer, sleep timer, floating player, speed control

With Google account — adds: YouTube playlist import, liked videos, subscription feed (channels you follow on YouTube).

Privacy note: Signing in sends your watch history to the Google account. Use a secondary Google account if you prefer to keep YMusic listening history separate.

Queue vs Playlist — What’s the Difference in YMusic?

The current Queue is temporary — it clears when you close YMusic. A Playlist is saved permanently in YMusic’s local database. Every “my playlist disappeared” report in YMusic forums is a queue mistaken for a playlist.

Queue

Playlist

Current playback order — session only

Saved permanently in YMusic’s local database

Clears when YMusic closes

Persists between sessions, updates, restarts

Added via “Play Next” or “Add to Queue”

Created via long-press → Add to Playlist → New Playlist

How to create a playlist:

  • Long-press any song in search results or playback
  • Tap “Add to Playlist”
  • Tap “New Playlist” → enter a name → confirm

How to Import Your YouTube Playlists Into YMusic

Sign in with your Google account — Profile icon → Sign in with Google — then navigate to Library → YouTube Playlists. Your existing YouTube playlists appear and are playable directly.

  • Tap the Profile icon (top right in YMusic)
  • Tap “Sign in with Google”
  • Select your Google account
  • Authorize YMusic to access your YouTube data
  • Navigate to Library → YouTube Playlists — your playlists appear

What imports: Public and unlisted YouTube playlists, liked videos, YouTube Music playlists associated with your account.

What does NOT import: Spotify playlists, Apple Music playlists, or any content from other platforms.

Sign out: Profile icon → Sign Out. Removes imported playlists from Library tab but does not delete playlists you created locally inside YMusic.

Where Are Your Downloaded Songs in YMusic?

Downloaded songs appear in Library → Downloads inside YMusic. Also accessible via file manager at Internal Storage → Music → YMusic. Both views show the same files.

Access Method

Path

In-app

Library tab → Downloads → songs listed with format badge and file name

File manager

Internal Storage → Music → YMusic → MP3/M4A/Opus files

Offline indicator: Downloaded songs show a filled download icon next to the title. Tap a downloaded song with screen off, mobile data off, and WiFi off — it plays from storage.

What happens when YMusic is uninstalled: Downloaded songs survive — they live in Android’s internal storage at /Music/YMusic/, not inside the app’s protected data folder.

Format selection, file sizes, bitrate comparison, SD card storage: ymusic mp3.
